molly's smile is apologetic, and the grip on caleb's hand loosens, not wanting him to feel uncomfortable. he honestly hadn't thought about it, and jeez, molly, have a fucking brain, for once--
he sighs, and suddenly, he feels... exposed, like maybe he'd done something wrong. he closes his door once caleb is inside and reaches for the black silk robe that hangs behind it, shrugging into it and tying off the front. it might be short, but it offers coverage, and molly turns back to caleb, smiling weakly.
"there. i apologize, caleb, i... i hadn't thought about it. my mistake. um--" his cheeks are turning red, so he quickly turns around, selecting a dress at random from the wall-- the long, silver one.
"I don't mean to make you feel self-conscious. You are comfortable in your skin." It's admirable in a way. Caleb feels awkward when he's naked. He feels exposed. It's not the most comfortable feeling for him. Molly handles it much better.
"I made assumptions," he sighs as he watches Molly cover up. He hadn't meant for Molly to become uncomfortable. "You are very beautiful like this."
Silver is a good color for Molly. He always looks good when he wears it.
molly relaxes a little as caleb speaks, feeling slightly less awkward as caleb reassures him right back. he supposes if he's adamant about giving such care, he should be receptive to receiving it. so molly sets the dress aside, leaning down to kiss the top of caleb's head.
"thank you, caleb widogast. i'm sorry i didn't think of you sooner."
he turns slowly with that same, damning smile on his face, then reaches for the silver dress, holding it up underneath his chin.
"Molly... it's not a hardship to see you mostly naked." Caleb is more comfortable with his attraction to Molly and the more physical nature of their relationship. The more time he spends with Molly the more comfortable he gets.
He really tries to consider Molly's question but... but he looks good. Caleb doesn't understand fashion and what makes Molly look good. He just looks good.
"It's a party and silver is brighter?" He offers with a shy smile.
molly chuckles lightly at caleb's words, nodding along with him. he supposes it's true; they're... dating? right? mostly dating? caleb should be comfortable with his body by now, and even if he isn't, well. they have time, and molly's patient with caleb. sure, maybe he's taken a little after beauregard in terms of patience, but caleb sits differently on his own shoulders.
his insight makes molly think for a moment, and he nods in approval, turning with a flourish back to his other dresses.
"i believe you're right. a black outfit is more suited for a date... or maybe for a day just for you and myself."
molly sheds his robe, letting it drop to the floor, then steps carefully into the longer silver dress, zipping it as high as he can reach.
"It's formal?" Caleb suggests because that's the only way he can think of black suits or black dresses. They are for formal, somber occasions. This is not one of those.
He rubs his hands on the bed before he gets up and approaches Molly. Caleb is very gentle about zipping up his dress. When he's done he puts his hands on Molly's shoulders and kisses the back of his neck.
molly laughs lightly, a genuine laugh that fjord tells him he hasn't heard until he began seeing caleb. molly didn't think the professor made that much of an impact on him, but once he began to open his eyes, to listen, he began to understand.
the kiss on the back of his neck sends shivers down his spine and molly grins, glancing over his shoulder at the other.
"you're not so bad on the eyes yourself, professor widogast. what are you wearing tonight? i have to be able to show you off, which i will do, no matter what you're wearing. but show me anyway."
"I'm wearing this." This being his usual loose fitting jeans, t-shirt, and sweater. He's sort of a mess of styles but he only dresses up if someone bothers him about it. Since no one did well, he's dressed like this.
molly gives him a sympathetic smile and a gentle laugh, leaning into him a little and fingering the edges of his t-shirt with a fond smile. he could upgrade him, just a touch, if caleb would allow...
"may i... dress you? just for fun. and if you don't like it, take it off, and i won't ask again. i have some things i think you could wear splendidly, a nice button up, a good tie maybe, or a jacket..." he trails off, his eyes running down caleb's body to his collarbone, chest, hips.
He looks down at his t-shirt which has a cute drawing of a sleeping kitten on it. If he's going to be Molly's date he really should put some effort into how he looks.
"I'll try some things on." He doesn't want to embarrass Molly by looking like a slob. "If you think they'll fit."
Caleb is thin. Very thin. Molly has much more shape to him. Caleb is a stick. He certainly won't look as good as Molly.
in all honesty, the shirt could likely stay, and molly is already spinning a few ideas around in his head. he has a picture, a plan he can already begin to set in motion, and he turns to his closet to extract a pair of jeans slightly too long for him.
"these will fit you skinnier than you're used to, but not too tightly. your shirt can stay, i think it'll look cute if we style it a little."
he holds the folded pair of jeans to his lover, kind, appreciative eyes gazing down at him.
"You look incredible," he says as he takes the jeans. "I should look decent at least."
He feels very drab standing next to Molly who glitters and glows in the silver dress. Caleb would like to be not an embarrassment but he knows if he says that Molly will object.
"Are you sure about the shirt?" he asks as he moves back so that he can set the jeans down on the bed. They don't have any cat hair on them. Amazing. Caleb blushes a little as he takes off his jeans.
They are skinnier than he's used to and his legs feel a bit constricted but it's not... awful.
molly wants to observe, to let his eyes follow down caleb's backside and to his thighs, but he doesn't, instead choosing to be a little more respectful than he has been, and he trains his eyes instead on caleb's face.
"i am," he confirms. once caleb is zipped and buttoned, molly's face lights up, and he takes a step forward to grip him by the belt loops.
"wonderful. it already makes all the difference." molly tucks in half of his t-shirt, just around the front, and with that simple change, he's satisfied, moving back to sit on his bed. "i think you look perfect, darling. what do you think?"
molly had considered a jacket, but the thought left as quickly as it arrived, preoccupied instead with how handsome his caleb looks in this. molly will forever be astounded by how simple changes can completely elevate a look, and caleb makes it look even better.
he reaches back for caleb's hair tie, gently pulling his hair free, then starts finger combing it back again, into a new tie. molly then fluffs the baby hairs out, framing caleb's face, and when he's satisfied, he laces their fingers together.
"you look handsome. i like your hair this long, it's fun to play with. shall we join the party?"
molly gives caleb one more once over, a sly smirk playing at his features while he drags his shy wizard from his bedroom and out to the party. it's, thankfully, well under way, with beau and yasha flirting over a deck of cards, calianna and jester excitedly discussing something together on the couch, and fjord looking dejected as caduceus reassures him. essek has arrived, as well, but he stands alone with a glass of wine held close to his chest. veth and yeza have just arrived, so molly turns back to caleb and leans in to kiss his cheek.
"go say hello to your friends, if you like. i'll make us drinks, okay?"
molly smiles, squeezes his hand, then slips away, choosing something boozy to inebriate the both of them.
It's always a relief to see Essek at a party. He's the one person Caleb can get very nerdy with and be understood.
"Thank you." He squeezes Molly's hand before he goes to say hello to a few people and then settle by Essek to talk.
Veth joins them and while she doesn't understand physics on the same level she understands enough and her husband is a brilliant chemist. It's all very nerdy at Caleb's corner.
molly watches caleb go, an affectionate smile on his cheeks, but it's not long before he's losing himself in a conversation with fjord and caduceus. caduceus is a very good friend to fjord, anyone can see it, and by the time molly searches for his wizard again, he's confident in leaving them to their devices.
molly drapes himself over caleb's back, pressing his lips to his cheek. "essek," he greets without looking up, his tone a little teasing. he knows essek has the hots for caleb, but. whatever. he trusts him to do the right thing, and so far, so good.
molly slips a drink into caleb's hand, then sips on his own, eyes still trained on his lover. "it's a bloody sunrise. i hope you like it, darling."
molly shoots essek a glance (one that the drow likely doesn't catch onto), before he curls a protective arm around caleb's waist. molly steers him into their own private conversation, where he sits on the arm of the couch and grins up at his lover.
"rum, orange juice, grenadine. it's really good, but it makes me queasy if i drink too many of them." molly's words are punctuated by the tiefling tipping his drink into his mouth, finishing it off and swirling the ice around the bottom. "that won't stop me, though, i have a big question to ask you. i need all the liquid courage i can gather."
"A big question?" Caleb took a sip and oh, that was strong. He would need to nurse this for the night otherwise he would be very tipsy very quickly. "What is it, Molly?"
He couldn't imagine what Molly might want to ask him. It shouldn't be too hard for Molly to ask him on a date. They go out together comfortably. Caleb doesn't feel very nervous when he asks Molly out.
He feels nervous when they are out but that's because of the people around them, not because of Molly.
molly feels a little on the spot when caleb asks him what it is, his cheeks turning a faint pink as he tilts his head off to the side. he glances down, away, like he's embarrassed.
"well, i'll need to work on this drink some more before i ask you, of course." he finally looks back up, searching caleb's expression.
"it isn't bad. i promise. i'm just nervous, is all."
Caleb frowns slightly. Not knowing what Molly wants to ask sets his nerves a little on edge. Molly may have said it wasn't bad but... he's a worrier. It's what he does.

he likes scarves and layers that's all he knows

"I'm wearing this." This being his usual loose fitting jeans, t-shirt, and sweater. He's sort of a mess of styles but he only dresses up if someone bothers him about it. Since no one did well, he's dressed like this.
He's hopeless, after all.

"This is it?" He tilts his head as he looks down at himself. "I look the same?"
Well, to Caleb he looks the same. It's just jeans and a t-shirt. That's nothing interesting. "Are you sure?"
If Molly's happy Caleb's definitely happy with this look.

he reaches back for caleb's hair tie, gently pulling his hair free, then starts finger combing it back again, into a new tie. molly then fluffs the baby hairs out, framing caleb's face, and when he's satisfied, he laces their fingers together.

"I don't plan on cutting it." He's also a fan of his longer hair. It's nice and he can hide behind it when he's feeling shy.
Caleb hadn't even realized the party had started. He was so focused on Molly. "Oh, yes, we don't want to be rude."

Perhaps a little alcohol will help him as well.
