molly does as he says he will, leaving his door unlocked, then returns to his bedroom, where he's already got a few options for the night laid out. he's already dressed fjord in a nice button up shirt, black and purple, and tighter-fitting black denim than he would be used to. a thin necklace with a yellow shining eye on the end as a pendant topped it off, and now he's retreated to his room to send photos to ... probably jester.
so molly stands mostly nude, now, save for a thin layer of lace panties, as he observes his choices. three silver dresses, one longer, one shorter, and one with long sleeves. two black, one glittering, one matte. and he loves all of them.
Caleb is not prepared for a mostly nude Molly. He grips the doorframe to his bedroom and remembers how to breathe. He is the most beautiful thing Caleb has ever seen and he's going to kill Caleb.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt." He turns his back to give Molly some privacy. "I will, uh, wait in the living room until you're dressed."
He assumed this would be a fashion show where Molly would come out dressed. Not this.
molly's face lights up at the sound of caleb's voice. how wonderful! he's missed him so much, and-- oh--
"caleb! no, no, it's alright. come back. i don't mind." he turns to face caleb, and the front is a little more covered than the back. truly, the thought of what he's wearing (or not wearing) doesn't even occur to him, and he gives a gentle smile to caleb to reassure him.
"I thought you were going to show me the dresses not... not be undressed." Caleb feels a little like he's walked into a very private moment even though Molly asked him to come over.
"I simply wasn't prepared." He still stands somewhat awkwardly in Molly's doorway. "I'll stay if you're okay with that."
He'll simply sit on his hands and admire from afar. Safely.
molly's smile is apologetic, and the grip on caleb's hand loosens, not wanting him to feel uncomfortable. he honestly hadn't thought about it, and jeez, molly, have a fucking brain, for once--
he sighs, and suddenly, he feels... exposed, like maybe he'd done something wrong. he closes his door once caleb is inside and reaches for the black silk robe that hangs behind it, shrugging into it and tying off the front. it might be short, but it offers coverage, and molly turns back to caleb, smiling weakly.
"there. i apologize, caleb, i... i hadn't thought about it. my mistake. um--" his cheeks are turning red, so he quickly turns around, selecting a dress at random from the wall-- the long, silver one.
"I don't mean to make you feel self-conscious. You are comfortable in your skin." It's admirable in a way. Caleb feels awkward when he's naked. He feels exposed. It's not the most comfortable feeling for him. Molly handles it much better.
"I made assumptions," he sighs as he watches Molly cover up. He hadn't meant for Molly to become uncomfortable. "You are very beautiful like this."
Silver is a good color for Molly. He always looks good when he wears it.
molly relaxes a little as caleb speaks, feeling slightly less awkward as caleb reassures him right back. he supposes if he's adamant about giving such care, he should be receptive to receiving it. so molly sets the dress aside, leaning down to kiss the top of caleb's head.
"thank you, caleb widogast. i'm sorry i didn't think of you sooner."
he turns slowly with that same, damning smile on his face, then reaches for the silver dress, holding it up underneath his chin.
"Molly... it's not a hardship to see you mostly naked." Caleb is more comfortable with his attraction to Molly and the more physical nature of their relationship. The more time he spends with Molly the more comfortable he gets.
He really tries to consider Molly's question but... but he looks good. Caleb doesn't understand fashion and what makes Molly look good. He just looks good.
"It's a party and silver is brighter?" He offers with a shy smile.
molly chuckles lightly at caleb's words, nodding along with him. he supposes it's true; they're... dating? right? mostly dating? caleb should be comfortable with his body by now, and even if he isn't, well. they have time, and molly's patient with caleb. sure, maybe he's taken a little after beauregard in terms of patience, but caleb sits differently on his own shoulders.
his insight makes molly think for a moment, and he nods in approval, turning with a flourish back to his other dresses.
"i believe you're right. a black outfit is more suited for a date... or maybe for a day just for you and myself."
molly sheds his robe, letting it drop to the floor, then steps carefully into the longer silver dress, zipping it as high as he can reach.
"It's formal?" Caleb suggests because that's the only way he can think of black suits or black dresses. They are for formal, somber occasions. This is not one of those.
He rubs his hands on the bed before he gets up and approaches Molly. Caleb is very gentle about zipping up his dress. When he's done he puts his hands on Molly's shoulders and kisses the back of his neck.
molly laughs lightly, a genuine laugh that fjord tells him he hasn't heard until he began seeing caleb. molly didn't think the professor made that much of an impact on him, but once he began to open his eyes, to listen, he began to understand.
the kiss on the back of his neck sends shivers down his spine and molly grins, glancing over his shoulder at the other.
"you're not so bad on the eyes yourself, professor widogast. what are you wearing tonight? i have to be able to show you off, which i will do, no matter what you're wearing. but show me anyway."
"I'm wearing this." This being his usual loose fitting jeans, t-shirt, and sweater. He's sort of a mess of styles but he only dresses up if someone bothers him about it. Since no one did well, he's dressed like this.
molly gives him a sympathetic smile and a gentle laugh, leaning into him a little and fingering the edges of his t-shirt with a fond smile. he could upgrade him, just a touch, if caleb would allow...
"may i... dress you? just for fun. and if you don't like it, take it off, and i won't ask again. i have some things i think you could wear splendidly, a nice button up, a good tie maybe, or a jacket..." he trails off, his eyes running down caleb's body to his collarbone, chest, hips.
He looks down at his t-shirt which has a cute drawing of a sleeping kitten on it. If he's going to be Molly's date he really should put some effort into how he looks.
"I'll try some things on." He doesn't want to embarrass Molly by looking like a slob. "If you think they'll fit."
Caleb is thin. Very thin. Molly has much more shape to him. Caleb is a stick. He certainly won't look as good as Molly.
in all honesty, the shirt could likely stay, and molly is already spinning a few ideas around in his head. he has a picture, a plan he can already begin to set in motion, and he turns to his closet to extract a pair of jeans slightly too long for him.
"these will fit you skinnier than you're used to, but not too tightly. your shirt can stay, i think it'll look cute if we style it a little."
he holds the folded pair of jeans to his lover, kind, appreciative eyes gazing down at him.
"You look incredible," he says as he takes the jeans. "I should look decent at least."
He feels very drab standing next to Molly who glitters and glows in the silver dress. Caleb would like to be not an embarrassment but he knows if he says that Molly will object.
"Are you sure about the shirt?" he asks as he moves back so that he can set the jeans down on the bed. They don't have any cat hair on them. Amazing. Caleb blushes a little as he takes off his jeans.
They are skinnier than he's used to and his legs feel a bit constricted but it's not... awful.
molly wants to observe, to let his eyes follow down caleb's backside and to his thighs, but he doesn't, instead choosing to be a little more respectful than he has been, and he trains his eyes instead on caleb's face.
"i am," he confirms. once caleb is zipped and buttoned, molly's face lights up, and he takes a step forward to grip him by the belt loops.
"wonderful. it already makes all the difference." molly tucks in half of his t-shirt, just around the front, and with that simple change, he's satisfied, moving back to sit on his bed. "i think you look perfect, darling. what do you think?"
